What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are a solution containing a defined combination of ingredients which have an desired anti aging or smoothing effect on the skin. The ingredients depend on the depth of desired peeling, and the issues you are trying to improve on.
Newer peels are more gentle on the skin, yet actually have more of a positive effect--enhancing and smoothing the skin in ways the older peels could not. The VI Peel by Vitality Institute is one of the newer technology peels, and Dr Duke is offering those peels in her office in Mystic, CT.
What can chemical peels treat?
Chemical peels can:
- reduce wrinkles
- smooth skin texture
- decrease pore size
- reduce brown blotches
- lighten melasma
- reduce acne breakouts
What ingredients are in the new chemical peels?
The new VI Peels contain a carefully blended combination of ingredients to achieve the results you are looking for:
- Tricholoacetic acid (TCA)
- Salicylic acid
- Retinoic acid
- Benzoyl peroxide
- Proprietary mineral blend
This pharmaceutical grade chemical peel stimulates dermal proteins to repair the cellular matrix and reverse signs of aging, treat hyperpigmentation, acne, enlarged pores, sun damage, and brown spots. The ingredients have been "tamed" to blend in a more synergistic to achieve their optimal results.
Do the chemical peels hurt?
Part of the VI Peel "appeal" is that the actual procedure is not uncomfortable--yet gives great results. Usually a peel of this level can be quite uncomfortable; the VI peel is not. The VI Peel is an in-office procedure that takes about 30 minutes. When you leave the office, the skin is mildly red. We prefer you do not go in direct sunlight after the procedure.
Do you peel after the treatment?
When you leave the office after the procedure, your skin is red and a mildly stingy. The redness fades in a couple of days. And then the skin peel for different degrees starting on day 3 and going for either a few days, or up to a week.
Patients have choices now about how much they want to peel. You could chose to do a very mild peel--with just a touch of light skin peeling. Or you could decide to do a more intense medium depth peel--and you may peel on and off for about one week.
The same peel can be done on two different patients, with different skin types and issues, and they will get different degrees of peeling. So the degree of peeling is variable--depending on your skin type and the type of peel applied. We can design and cater the peel type to what you want--and what would best help your issues.
