Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® to Treat Nasolabial Folds

Treatment for Nasolabial Folds - Mystic, CT

A patient smiles after treatment for nasolabial foldsAlthough nasolabial folds are also known as “laugh lines,” very few people find them funny. Indeed, if you are reading this blog post right now, there is a good chance that you would like to do something about these lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth due to how prominent they have become in recent years. Fortunately, at Coastal Dermatology, we offer two of the most effective non-surgical solutions to nasolabial folds in the form of Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®.

These treatment options for nasolabial folds, available at our Mystic, CT dermatology practice, are safe, and they can take years off the appearance of the face. Dr. Daniella Duke artfully and strategically injects Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® into the facial skin to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds while maintaining a completely natural look. Although the results of Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® injections are temporary, treatments can be safely repeated as necessary.

Many of the injectable products last up to one year -- makeing this no downtime procedure just an "annual maintenance event."

Some patient prefer an even more holistic or natural approach to injectables to soften wrinkles, smooth skin texture, and firm up the skin. Therefore, Dr. Duke also offers PRP, or platelet rich plasma. PRP uses your own growth factors to stimulate new collagen growth in the skin--smoothing, tightening, and firmess.

If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your face due to the presence of conspicuous nasolabial folds, please schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Daniella Duke at Coastal Dermatology to learn more about the many options.

What Are Nasolabial Folds and Why Do They Form?

Nasolabial folds are the lines that appear between the edges of the nose and the corners of the mouth when we smile and laugh, from the time we are babies. In most children and young adults, the nasolabial folds appear only when they are smiling or laughing, and they disappear when the face is at rest. However, over time, they become permanently etched in the face, being apparent at all times. They become more obvious with age. This is due to several factors, including drooping of the fat pad that underlies the cheeks and the loss of collagen that gives skin its natural volume and elasticity.

Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®

Restylane Silk imageBecause nasolabial folds form as a result of a loss of underlying volume in the face, Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® offer excellent solutions. Both Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® are dermal fillers composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. Hyaluronic acid is highly hydrophilic, or water loving; the molecules are capable of attracting and retaining up to 1,000 times its weight in water. As a result, Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® are able to restore volume to the face for months after they have been injected. Restylane Silk is one of the newer fillers; with a smaller particle size--softer and even more subtle results are achieved.

Dr. Duke can inject either dermal filler in isolation, but she often achieves the best results by layering Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® , Perlane, or Restylane Silk on top of one another. During your initial consultation with Dr. Duke, she will evaluate your skin and advise you of the treatment plan that she feels will be most effective in your particular case.
