Is a chemical peel right for your skin issues?

Chemical peels in Mystic, CT

What is a chemical peel

A chemical peel is really a combination of ingredients applied to the skin to achieve a specific goal:

  • remove brown spots and patches
  • stimulate collagen to grow to decrease fine lines
  • brighten and tighten the skin
  • decrease pore size
  • reduce active acne
  • generally rejuvenate skin to make it look more healthy and youthful

Chemical peels have greatly evolved over time. They are much less caustic on the skin, as the newer peels use a balanced blend of more natural ingredients to achieve results. A more gentle approach, yet because the ingredients are more targeted to the specific goal, the end results are still great. You can opt to have a very mild peel, or a more aggressive peel--depending on your skin type, your schedule, and what you want to achieve.

Important facts to know about chemical peels

In general, at Coastal Dermatology, we offer some of the newer technology, more natural ingredient chemical peels:

  • It is best not to be in the sun before and after getting a chemical peel
  • Some peels are safe for darker skin types
  • The peel usually is just a bit stingy during the procedure, and then feels like a sunburn after the procedure for 1-2 days. Then the skin gets tight, and begins to peel.
  • The "peeling" part of the healing process may last form 1-2 days, to 10+ days---depending on what type of peel you get, and how your skin responds
  • Often, more than one peel is needed to achieve your results
